Abstract

Now more than ever, electromobility is in the focus of society. In order for this technology to become and stay competitive, the new generation of vehicles with electric or hybrid drive must not result in any loss of comfort. Due to a battery’s lower specific energy density battery when compared to the common fuels, the efficient use of energy in these types of vehicles is even more crucial. This is why the efficiency of the air conditioning systems also plays a decisive role. The compressor as a work-performing component of an air conditioning system, which is designed as a scroll compressor in almost all electric or hybrid vehicles, must be as efficient as possible in order to increase the range of these vehicle types. The goal of this thesis is to build a transient model of a scroll compressor, which is able to model a real behavior over a wide range of operating points. The model should be able to answer questions such as “How do volumetric losses develop over rotation speed?” or “What maximum pressure peaks can be expected during operation?” for an individual compressor without having to test it on a test bench. The model is able to predict the most important physical processes such as internal leakage, heat exchange between gas and the machine as well as friction effects and pressure losses within the scroll compressor over time.
