Abstract

Reducing energy use is one of the main political issues in the world today. By introducing known technology to Sandvik SRP products, energy use can be reduced. The objective of this SIMACS project was to determine if energy use will be reduced by using a frequency inverter on the asynchronous electric motor to a cone crusher. The results and conclusions of this SIMACS project are based on energy measurements that were obtained at the Sandvik SRP Dalby test plant in Sweden and material analysis that was performed at the Sandvik SRP test centre in Svedala. Whether energy use changes if another eccentric speed is used is not investigated in this paper. The results from this SIMACS project have shown that apparent energy and reactive energy as well as the magnitude of the current will be significantly reduced when a frequency inverter is used. However, the actual amount of energy and the voltage level will be slightly higher when a frequency inverter is used. It was also found that very high power peaks will occur if the frequency inverter is bypassed after the cone crusher has been started. The material samples that were obtained show that if the eccentric speed is the same, it does not matter whether a frequency inverter is used. However, the feed will affect the particle size and shape. Not introducing a frequency inverter as standard equipment on Sandvik SRP cone crushers would be in opposition to the new SMC Strategy 2015.
