Abstract

In the course of this diploma thesis the energy cycle of the ladle was evaluated in the production cycle. The work was carried out in cooperation with Maschinenfabrik Liezen Gießerei GmbH, where a wide range of unalloyed, low-alloy to high-alloy steels is cast and processed on two electric arc furnaces. The ladles are operated with two refractory linings, one of a zirconia mastic and one of cement. In order to evaluate the refractory lining, a ladle was equipped with several temperature sensors at different depths of refractory lining and recorded during an entire ladle travel data, subsequently curves were created for the up and cool down of the pan. On the basis of this data, an evaluation value for the respective heat state was created for each refractory material and these were compared with one another. With the help of these evaluation figures, it was found that the cementitious refractory lining is better suited for the casting process, as it reaches higher temperatures and keeps them much longer. Another advantage is that it is not as susceptible to wear and therefore much more batches can be shed. From the knowledge gained in the diploma thesis, optimizations in the casting process can be derived. For example, the heating time of the pan has been shortened, thereby reducing energy consumption. Furthermore, the annual cost of materials and the associated costs can be significantly reduced by the exclusive use of a casting ladle with cement refractory lining.
