Abstract

For a better electrical conductivity as in the thesis nanoscale graphite used as electrical conductive filler in polyolefines (Knafl, University of Leoben 2008) graphite filled cocontinuous polymer blends were tested. The graphite filled polymer-blends were compounded in different orders. Therefore different types of polypropylene (BF330MO, RF365MO) and polyethylene (MA8200, MG9641) were used. PP and PE were always used in a ratio of 70 : 30. The graphite was a mixture of the sorts MX200 and MX51 with fractions of 80 : 20. The blends containing PP BF330MO and PE MG9641 and 20% graphite turned out to be the best advantage. The compound, in which PP and graphite were compounded first, and PE was added in a second step, showed a volume resistivity of 20000 Ohm*cm and a surface resistivity of 13000 Ohm. The values could be minimized by compounding PP and PE first and graphite added in the second step to a volume resistivity of 7000 Ohm*cm and a surface resistivity of 1800 Ohm. Plates made of this compound showed white and black areas. Neither differential scanning analysis nor IR-spectroscopy detected different configurations of the polymers in the two areas.
