Abstract
Super Duplex Stainless Steels are high-alloyed steels with an excellent corrosion resistance. They exhibit a ferritic/austenitic microstructure and for better corrosion resistance Cu can be added to Super Duplex Stainless Steels. Due to a lack in literature, the intention of this work was to analyse the influence of Cu on the microstructure as well as on mechanical properties. By means of optical light microscopy the ferrite/austenite phase balance was investigated by a variation of the Cu content. Scanning electron microscopy combined with electron backscatter diffraction was used to identify and analyse occurring phases as well as to establish a correlation between microstructure and fracture behaviour. Furthermore, tensile tests, hardness tests as well as notched impact tests were performed to determine mechanical properties. As a result, it was found that Cu shifts the ferrite/austenite phase balance to a higher austenite fraction and changes the notched impact behaviour.
