Abstract

In the framework of this diploma thesis it was attempted to calculate distortions of high speed steels using modern simulation methods. Every manufacturing step -from the steel mill to the component- alters the material properties. The potential for distortions, which is growing continuously during the production process, is not released until the final heat treatment. For a simulation, it is necessary to determine thermophysical, thermomechanical as well as transformation data for each investigated alloy. Input data is strongly dependent on temperature and must be defined for each phase. For this diploma thesis Young's Modulus, heat capacity, conductibility of temperature as well as thermal expansion coefficients were determined for different temperatures and phases. Additionally, material flow properties exhibit a strong dependency on the strain rate. Therefore, flow curves for different temperatures and strain rates were recorded. Values for transformation enthalpy, heat transmission coefficients and transformation plasticity parameters were taken from literature. It was possible to demonstrate, that the cooling rate during quenching has a significant influence on the resulting distortions.
