Abstract

The permeability of the burden is a very important factor in view of the productivity at the sinter strand. The grain size distribution of the individual input materials do not correlate with the productivity of the sinter bed, because it will be modified at the granulation process. In this work it is tried to become a link between the structure and the grain size distribution of the agglomerated mixture and the fluidic properties through the empirical law according to Ergun for the pressure loss in a packed bed. For this law the resistance coefficients for the cold sinter bed have to be determined. These coefficients depend on the granulation process, because the grain shape and the porosity change due to the different granulation procedures. For the determination these coefficients and the examination of theoretical model of Ergun, the relevant properties of the agglomerated bulk solids, such as voids fraction and a parameter of the grain size distribution, as well as the pressure drop through the bulk are experimentally determined. First of all it is shown that the link between the parameter of the grain size distribution of the packed beds and the voids fraction is not clear and strew strongly. The received results exemplify, that the resistance coefficients a and b for the cold sinter beds are not constant, because they depend strongly on the granulation process. Consequently the pressure drop through the cold sinter bed cannot be estimated through the Ergunequation and furthermore no indications for the expected productivity can be estimated.
