Abstract

The main task of this work was to investigate the parameters of the homogenisation on quality of continuous cast bars. The effect of the solution heat treatment (SHT) temperature on the mechanical properties of the two commercial wrought aluminium alloys 6061 and 6082 was also analysed. The homogenised and non homogenised plates were produced according to the usual conditions and methods. The metallographic investigations were performed on the continuous casting samples, after homogenisation, after the hot and the cold work mill, and after natural and artificial ageing. Then, Brinell hardness measurements and tensile tests were conducted on both alloys in order to examine the influence of homogenisation. The analyses of these investigations have shown that there is no significant difference between the homogenised and non homogenised plates. Due to these results the homogenisation of the alloys 6061 and 6082 has no considerably effect of the mechanical properties and tensile strength respectively. Hereby no improvement is attainable. The SHT experiments indicates that the yield and the tensile strength of artificial aged alloys increases at higer SHT temperature. High values of tensile strength and elongation of natural aged plates are approached with rising SHT temperature whereas yield strength decreases.
