Abstract

The rapid development of the Chinese economy attracts many Austrian enterprises to the Chinese market. Especially in recent years, small and medium-sized companies have tried to invest directly in China. The long transport distance, the participation of many different parties in the transport chain between Austria and china, limitations within the enterprises and the Chinese market features cause many challenges for logistics. This thesis is based on this background and focuses on analyzing the logistics challenges of the Austrian small and medium-sized companies, according to different market-entry phases. The theoretical part of the thesis lists the three biggest challenges in the logistics chain: the change of cost structure, the rising dynamics potential and the increasing complexity as well as the general logistics strategies, which includes standardization, postponement and cooperation with logistics service providers. The practical part is based on the data of the company Fronius and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of its current logistics strategies in three different market-entry phases. In “establish sales channels” phases, the alternative strategies are discussed. The work tries to illustrate the main challenges and the logistics by the example of Fronius in the following two parts: First, what should be taken into account for a reasonable and feasible logistics strategy of the Austrian small and medium-sized enterprises, and secondly, how the strategy can be structured.
