They employ a systematic approach, detailing the computational framework and simulation parameters. Three different original piston rings belonged to the same engine are used for the simulation and corresponding experimental validation in this publication. Results and discussions highlight the directional dependence of hydrodynamic conditions, with distinct differences for individual rings. Original smoothed profiles are compared with substitute geometries like quadratic parabola and circular arc fits.
