Effect of chlorination on the behavior of Jarosite and trace elements

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

Jarosite is an iron precipitation which is generated from the zinc and nickel industries as an industrial waste. To move towards environmental protection, the recycling of such waste is crucial. Furthermore, jarosite contains valuable elements such as silver, zinc, indium, and nickel which can be extracted for economic benefits. In this context, the decomposition of nickel jarosite is investigated under the effect of chlorination treatment. The approach is used to remove the valuable elements out of the jarosite by adding different chlorination agents which are magnesium chloride, and aluminum chloride to the material under the effect of thermal treatment. The effects of different agents, heating rates, and calcination are investigated to examine the behavior of the jarosite as well as improve the efficiency of extraction of the valuable elements. The re-search has found that heating rates influence the morphology of the treated material and the ex-traction of the valuable elements.
