Abstract

The development of efficient numerical methods, often based on the finite element method, enable fast and economic analyses of industrial processes. In this respect, software packages with specialized numerical methods have been developed for the correct and numerically efficient representation of models with non-linear magnetic material behaviour and electromagnetic-thermal coupling. The present work deals with the investigation and evaluation of numerical methods for the simulation of inductive heating processes. The basic mechanisms of inductive heating processes and an overview of software packages for the simulation of inductive heating processes are presented. The focus is on the detailed investigation of the program CFS++. This includes the analysis of the implemented methods for the simulation of electromagnetic fields and the available electromagnetic-thermal coupling schemes. Furthermore, the general structure of the program and the simulation procedure is presented. Finally, the program is evaluated by means of simulations. The evaluation criteria include the representability of physical processes, the accuracy of the calculated results, the integrability into existing simulation sequences and the computing time. Finally, the results of the investigation provide an estimation of the applicability of CFS++ for electromagnetic-thermal problems.
