Best-Practice-Lösungen für Qualitätsanforderungen in Schweißbetrieben auf Basis der ISO 3834

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

The central factor for the success of company in the market is the ability to fulfill the customers demands. Quality is important for the fulfillment of these requirements. This especially applies to companies which produce their products with welding processes. In bridge-, crane-, ship- or aircraft construction: for the production of welded joints, high quality levels must be guaranteed because a failure can lead to disastrous effects. The ISO 3834 gives a statement about the levels which have to be met in the welding processes. Therein, the quality requirements for fusion welding of metallic materials are determined. This standard specification is also taken as the basis for this master thesis which is done in cooperation with JOIN - Competence Network for Joining Technology. The aim of this thesis is to collect and describe existing best-practice-solutions for the fulfillment of such quality requirements. Those solutions shall be available for small and medium-size welding businesses in the future. First, the theoretical basics of the relevant subject areas such as total quality manage-ment, benchmarking, organization of interviews and standardization are described briefly. On the one hand this is essential for the understanding of the subject matter, on the other hand the searching-activities for the best-practice-solutions relate to those basics. Therefor the procedure as practiced is also explained in the thesis. That starts with the compilation of the ÖNORM EN ISO 3834-2 based questionnaire, covers the realization of the interviews at 10 companies and includes the interpretation of their contents. A detailed explanation of the solutions, including some suggestions for their further application, completes this part of the thesis. At the end, essential results are summarized in a conclusion. In a further step, at a later time, model-solutions for the fulfillment of quality requirements shall be generated from the best-practice-solutions, which are suitable for utilization in small- and medium-size companies. By the implementation of these solutions the competitiveness of welding businesses can be increased lastingly in the market. This master thesis has laid the foundation for this future work.
