Abstract
Kappa-Zeron plants are dry gas cleaning plants with concrete wall enclosures as a characteristic feature. This solution allows, on top of simplified construction and improved sound insulation, to benefit from waste heat extraction. Coils of pipes are easy to integrate into these walls, serve as heat exchangers, and heat a suitable fluid. Within the scope of this work, the heat extraction potential of such a plant was determined and the results of a test installation evaluated. Careful analysis showed that the existing data are not suitable for deriving the potential due to an unsuitable control logic. A simple modification of the system would allow obtaining good quality data to validate a created calculation model. A newly developed scalable model allows calculating the heat extraction potential with sufficient accuracy. The results show a qualitatively good correlation with the heat quantity measurements from the test plant. The simulation also confirms that the influence of the pipe material is negligible compared to the distance between the pipes. The results support an optimized design of future plants.
