Abstract

In order to save primary energy resources they are replaced by quality assured alternative solid fuels to an economically and technically possible extent in co-incineration plants. As a rule, a diversity of alternative solid fuels is delivered by several suppliers which leads to a very heterogenous composition of the delivered alternative solid fuels. Therefore certain limits regarding emissions and content of pollutants are listed in a Waste Incineration Ordinance (Abfallverbrennungsverordnung). The increasing use of alternative solid fuels leads to a rising importance of know-how about processing of alternative solid fuels in order to reduce the amount of pollutants. This master-thesis deals with analysis of alternative solid fuels which are used in a cement plant. The analysis was conducted by fractionation of alternative solid fuels in order to obtain knowledge of the distribution of certain heavy metals in these alternative solid fuels. This generated knowledge creates the possibility of reducing the content of heavy metals in alternative solid fuels. Additionally, research about an economically implementable recovery of metals from the alternative solid fuels was conducted.
