N2 - In many laboratories around the world ultrasound is already used in cleaning baths. Dirt particles can be removed from different specimens or reaction rates can be accelerated through sonification. In this thesis, the cleaning principle will be expanded to the petroleum industry where scaling in equipment, tubing, and surface facilities could be removed. Two of this technique’s biggest advantages are: a substitution or at least a reduction of chemicals due to a physical method and its non-specific effect on different types of scaling. In addition, the ultrasonic technique can be combined with other already established cleaning or removal methods. Different experiments were carried out to investigate the influence factors and working principles of this technique.
