Abstract
Awareness raising for industrial hazards and risks involving dangerous substances are becoming increasingly important for disaster management authorities. Current trends show an increase of high-risk hazards with high probability of damage to humanity, as well as environment and infrastructure, and are now no longer confined only to natural events. Based on impact assessments of industrial disasters, higher effort must be given to local and regional administrative authorities, since these scenarios can reach challenges which in future will no longer be mastered by individual authorities alone. In this context, infrastructure that is particularly susceptible has an ever-increasing importance and demand attention, which, however, has still not been recognized. Within the scope of this master thesis, the example of the province of Styria is used to attempt a status survey on the risks and scenarios of incidents involving dangerous substances, in order to derive and present the requirements for today's crisis and disaster management.
