Abstract
This master thesis was elaborated in the context of the cooperation between the Styrian mining and marketing company DCM DECOmetal and the chair for mining engineering and mineral economics at the University of Leoben. The target of this cooperation is to sustainably optimize and develop the underground chromite mine in Bulqiza, Albania. The aim of this work was to examine the actual situation regarding the ore transport from stope to surface in order to create the basis for the future improvement. Several weeks on the mine site and repeated visits underground enabled a detailed study of the given situation in terms of activities, organisation and infrastructure. The elaboration of the gathered data led to a documentation of occurring bottlenecks, capacities and procedures forming the basis for a further determination of possible improvements along the transport chain. A summary of possible measurements in combination with an assessment regarding the required organizational and financial efforts was carried out. Finally a rough estimation concerning the feasibility of implementing an alternative transportation system in the form of a roof-mounted monorail train for the deeper levels of the mine was done.
