Abstract

The emissions of a sinter process basically consist of nitric oxides, sulphur oxides, carbon oxides, oxygen and steam. Despite of the varying percentages of these components along the sinter belt, characteristic profiles can be established. Using the profiles, conclusions concerning the sintering progress as well as the zoning of the sinter bed can be made. Especially after the dehydration of the wet zone, in other words in the area around the burn through point, remarkable changes of the gas composition are to be expected. In the past due to temperature restrictions a limited amount of information within this process section has been obtained. The measurement was performed with an exhaust gas cooler developed by the VTIU-Technikum at Montanuniversität Leoben. In this process, the exhaust gas is analyzed regarding the components CO2, CO, SO2, NO2 and mercury as well as its humidity, temperature and residual oxygen content. Additionally, a separate analysis of the condensate allows for better understanding of the interaction between the chemical behaviour of mercury and the other pollutants. When these pollutants are localised and their interactions are detected, specific measures for exhaust gas cleaning can be defined.
