Abstract
As from 5th of January 2021, companies supplying articles containing SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern) in a concentration above 0.1 % must submit information to the new SCIP-database (Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects). This information should be available to consumers and waste operators. Only 30 % of the Austrian waste economy know this database. This master thesis addresses the effects from the SCIP-database on the Austrian waste management. To assess future impact a survey was done. Second central theme illuminates interfaces between European chemical-laws and European waste-legislation. Thereby the focus is on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) and CLP (Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures). Topics like “waste industry’s unawareness” are discussed in a context of practical examples.
