N2 - As in every business when developing new machines or updating technical features of current product portfolio, one part of this process is to carry out on-site testing in real working environment to ensure that wanted performance is achieved and product fulfills strict quality as well as safety standards that Sandvik is requiring of all products. On-site testing is the only way to get proper feedback from the customer before product is released to the market. This work will give an understanding of how new product development is generally defined and how this is conducted into Sandvik’s R&D process. It explains current testing process and how it is executed including a new machine, component and software testing. How testing is carried out in other companies is also studied. Main underground mining methods are described to give a good understanding of the characteristic of each method. This will help engineering and all relevant people to get an idea where products are used and how. That is important when analyzing results from different test mine sites.
