N2 - Coke, the main fuel of the blast furnace (BF) process, undergoes significant structural changes both in the macro- and microstructural level during its descend through the BF. To investigate some of these properties of coke, samples have been taken by drilling through one of the tuyeres on an actual BF. The aggregate mass has been processed to separate the coke pieces from it. These samples have been characterized using several sophisticated techniques like Raman Spectrometry, BET analysis, X-Ray diffraction etc. The results have been compared to the similar properties of the parent coke. The results from these investigations will not only help us to analyze the changes in the coke structure in a deeper way, but also helps the BF operator to predict its quality during the process, providing in turn the promise of a better operation.
