Abstract
This paper overviews the financial logic and customer need for a mine to use self-drilling anchors and resin injection when they try to minimize their operational risks and OPEX through reaching the shortest time to ore in their hard rock mines. It assesses the technical maturity of the available solutions and their suitability to be used as a commercial solution to be sold to the customers. This assessment is conducted with the results of a cooperative project on going between Sandvik Mining and an OEM specialized in resin technology as a proof a concept for a major customer of Sandvik Mining. It also discusses potential improvements to the process and important technical advances that need to take place for the commercialisation of this technology to be feasible. I also look at the business model from OEM point of view and makes conclusions on the requirements affecting the feasibility of self-drilling anchors and resin injecting as a business for Sandvik.
