N2 - Tubing leaks developed from mechanical wear and corrosion during a sucker rod pump operation are one of the costly types of subsurface failures. Besides the correct pump design, chemical corrosion inhibition and material selection are often the solutions to this problem. Polymer-lined tubings are one aspect of reducing this type of wear. The non-corrosive and low friction factor properties as well as test results underline this assumption. An introduction of pump operations, basics of corrosion, material science of polymers, and tribology crosslinked with production engineering requirements will be discussed. Resulting in an invention, design, and execution of a tribology test facility under real-time parameters including polymer selection, test procedure and outcome is one part of the work. To complete the picture, a general cost analysis of the lined tubing application as well as Health and Safety aspects will be taken under consideration. The knowledge and the understanding of the interactions of all these interdisciplinary topics should be the aim of this thesis. Furthermore, it should be an effort to reduce operating costs, lost time injuries, and well failure rates.
