Abstract

Additive manufacturing processes are constantly offering new ways and possibilities to generate complex structures from different materials. Due to their lightweight construction properties, lattice structures made of AlSi10Mg are in great demand, especially in the aerospace industry but also in the automotive industry, and are the subject of intensive research. Components in these application areas have high demands in terms of quality and function. This makes extensive (non-destructive) testing, such as the CT scan, which is frequently used for AM products, unavoidable. However, these are often associated with high effort and costs. For this reason, this thesis deals in depth with the development of a simple, efficient and cost-effective non-destructive testing method. Frequency measurements have proven to be a successful method. In this thesis the theoretical background is described, a potential test setup is reviewed and measurements before and after different types of damage are performed. In addition, the mechanical properties of AM fabricated lattice structures are determined and furthermore the microstructure and porosity are characterized before and after heat treatment. A significant decrease in the first and second resonant frequencies was observed due to the induced volume damage, as well as a general change in the frequency signal due to plastic damage.
