title = "Evaluation and Optimization of Contractor Relevant Drilling KPIs",
abstract = "Drilling performance analysis is widespread throughout the modern oil and gas industry and an essential tool for many companies. Despite its important role in the industry, there is still a great amount of unused drilling data that holds great potential to improve drilling performance. Therefore there is a need to improve drilling performance analysis involving the expanded set of measurement and report data collected by drilling contractors as well as service companies, which is not considered by the traditional, operator relevant and standard Key Performance Indicator focussed, performance analysis approach. One major outcome is the improvement of the total performance of all collaborating parties at the rig site, leading to optimized procedures and reduction of invisible lost time. For instance by optimized monitoring of the ongoing drilling process, more detailed reporting to the operator as well as fast advising and decision making in critical situations. Additionally, upcoming new Key Performance Indicators enable the contractor to optimize among other things energy efficiency or wellbore treatment operations. This thesis will show that there is great energy savings potential when conducting wellbore treatment operations with reduced rotating or pump parameters. Furthermore it turned out that increased pipe moving speeds are not only connected to time savings but also lead to lower energy consumption. Additional findings show that if the equipment is maintained and inspected regularly, indications of wear and tear or fatigue are not coming up by selected drilling or machine parameters. Further analysis depicts that some measurement devices at the rig are not accurate enough to carry out supplementary analysis. Finally, the setup of an in-house data management software is described and its capabilities are compared to commercial software. In that course, criteria for the adoption of in-house software or commercial software are discussed.",
