Abstract
Due to the increasing CO2 problem, it is desirable to develop a treatment process for electric arc dust with a lower emission level. This master thesis deals with the currently commercially used technologies for recycling zinc from EAF dust. The current state of research is presented. Furthermore, the thermodynamic behaviour of zinc oxide with iron is approximated. Based on the reaction behaviour of the two elements, a feasibility study was started at the Chair of Nonferrous Metallurgy, in which different parameters and various furnace types were used. Based on the resulting data, the approach to the problem was refined. A more detailed investigation of the reduction of zinc oxide by means of iron was carried out in an induction furnace with integrated bottom flushing. 9 practical experiments with different temperatures were carried out. Based on the results of the tests, considerations can be made on the feasibility of a steel mill dust recycling concept. Individual possible problems are descripted in detail the discussion.
