Abstract
This work deals with heat recovery from blast furnace slag by endothermic reactions with the aim to investigate the corresponding heat transfer via a particle cooling model. With the conclusions drawn a concept for this recovery is worked out, evaluated and basicly suitable endothermic reactions are suggested. Following an introduction to the topic of energy efficiency in the field iron production, blast furnace slag is highlighted as an energy source and current treatment methods are explained. The following chapter is a description and evaluation of literative described ways to conduct energy recovery processes via endothermic reactions. The modeling phase of the particle cooling model is described in detail and the model is validated by comparison with known values found in literature. Several potentially suitable reactions are selected, examined in an exergy analysis and the necessary mass use is exstimated. These results are used in a subsequent feasibility study. Here, the heat transfer of slag to endothermic reactions in several scenarios is simulated. Finally, a concept is selected, evaluated and the in influence of various parameters is estimated from the continuously gained knowledge. Taking the previously conducted literature study into account, a favored reaction is chosen and recommendations for a possible pilot plant on a laboratory scale are given.
