Verwertungspotential von Tunnelausbruchmaterial - Studie eines Projekts der ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

In this thesis the recycling potential of tunnel excavation material is analysed in more detail on the basis of the ÖBB project NBS Schaftenau - Knoten Radfeld. At the beginning, the legal framework of the recyclability of tunnel excavation material is explained, followed by a project description. On the basis of the exploration campaigns carried out in the course of the project planning, the results obtained are transferred to the geological longitudinal section. This enables a compact and clear presentation of the data obtained. Subsequently, an estimation of the usability of the existing tunnel excavation material for aggregates for concrete production as well as for aggregates for HWS dams will be carried out. The geological longitudinal section as well as some of the determined investigation results form the basis for this. A further possible recycling path is to pass on the material to surrounding companies. For this purpose, appropriate companies in the vicinity of the project are identified and their willingness to take over the excavated material is determined. In discussions with representatives of some companies, great concerns are being expressed about taking over anthropogenically contaminated (especially bentonite- and surfactant-contaminated) material. On the basis of these findings, research is being conducted into the usability of materials contaminated with bentonite and surfactants. The findings are summarized in this thesis. In order to finally obtain material flows with different properties in practice, it is essential to separate the excavated material according to previously defined criteria. A possible method for this is the on-site analysis and separation of the tunnel excavation material using an "analysis line". Finally, it is determined whether material recycling is at all reasonable from a cost point of view.
