Abstract
In engineering geology, evaluations of the structure of the near-surface subsurface are often important for the assessment of geotechnical parameters such as modulus of elasticity or shear parameters. The combined evaluation of the seismic velocities of the P- and S-waves has proven its worth in this context. The geotechnical parameters mentioned above can be calculated using the results of the two velocities. The advantage over other geotechnical methods such as the Cone Penetration Test (CPT) is that these parameters are obtained for the length and depth of a recorded profile and not just for a single point. This enables the calculation of various geotechnical verifications along profiles and thus increases the accuracy and safety of structures, as the geotechnical parameters are known for a larger area. Furthermore, seismics can be used to correlate the point results of geotechnical exploration methods such as CPT along a profile more precisely. The question to be answered by this work is: are the calculated wave velocities with refraction seismics excited horizontally to the profile direction identical or similar to the velocity results from the Multichannel Analyses of Surface Waves method (MASW method)? When recording data for the MASW method, P- and S-wave velocities can be analyzed with the same data set. This greatly simplifies the construction of the profile geometry of the geophones, which saves time and therefore costs in relation to the P- and S-wave refraction.
