Abstract
This paper gives a detailes description of the discharge ante the working method of the most important metallurgical aggregate (Peirce-Smith-converter) in the copper smelting process. During the process the main components Cu, Fe and S as well as metallic components like Ag, As, Au, Bi, Cd, Co, Ni, Pb, Sb, Se, Sn, Te and the slag constituent SiO2 enters the converter with white metal and scrap. Starting point for the investigations was the the mass balance of 5 charges. After that the distrbution of the selected elements on the metallic phase, the slag phase and the flue dust was determined. Compared with results from mass balances of the years 1992, 1994 and 2004 an increasing amount of minor elements, except Pb, by using scrap is noticeable. Furthermore the calculated distribution coefficient's are compared with values from the literature and the dependence on process parameters like temperature, the amount of blast air and the basicity of the slag is evaluated.
