Untersuchung des thermischen Trocknungseffektes bei der Zerkleinerung von festen Ersatzbrennstoffen im Zerkleinerungsaggregat RocketMill®

Abstract

In Austria solid recovered fuels are used in energy-intensive industries like the cement industry to reduce the demand of primary raw materials for energy production as well as the related CO2 emissions and costs. For usage in the cement kiln’s main burner the solid recovered fuels have to be shredded. A TEC Production and Service GmbH developed an appropriate crushing device called RocketMilll® 2.50 double. The considered double chamber chain mill not only demonstrates efficient crushing, but also allows drying of the solid recovered fuels due to the air flow which supports particle’s discharge. Therefore, this master thesis aims to analyze and to quantify the assumed drying effect with a mass and energy balance and to point out the influences of the solid recovered fuels’ composition. For making up the plant balance, tests and material samplings are conducted at the plant location in Wiener Neustadt to determine the prevailing operating parameters. A purpose-build laboratory setup enables the investigation of the drying behavior and drying time of different material compositions. The balancing results support the hypothesis of an additional drying effect for solid recovered fuels in the double chamber chain mill RocketMill®. The chosen quantification approach represents a first approximation and provides the basis for more specific investigations. Occurring large input particle sizes led to limitations in laboratory humidity analysis and partially necessitated the usage of empiric values of certain components. Therefore, the outcome must be taken into consideration critically in terms of realistic reliability. The obtained laboratory results show that a higher share in biogenic materials like paper, cardboard or wood chips lead to lower drying rates and higher residual moisture contents. All characterized materials show hygroscopic qualities due to the existing share in paper or cardboard, which can be reduced by increasing the share of plastics.
