Untersuchung der Wirtschaftlichkeit des CopRod-Bohrsystems in kleinen und mittelgroßen Steinbrüchen

Abstract

In the frame of this Master thesis the technical and economical performance of the CopRod drilling system, developed by Atlas Copco, was analyzed. The CopRod system is an innovative drilling system, where a hydraulic tophammer generates the percussion energy which is transferred to the drill bit by inner drill rods. The rotation of the drill bit is activated by rotating outer drill tubes. With this technology the CopRod system combines the advantages of a tophammer system (high drilling rates, low fuel consumption) with those of a down the hole (DTH) hammer system (better drilling accuracy). The aim of the Master thesis was to find out where the Cop Rod drilling systems stands in comparison to tophammer and DTH drilling machines when used for drilling of blast holes in typical quarries. For that purpose measurements on CopRod and normal DTH rigs were carried out in Austria. The measurements comprised the determination of the drilling performance, the fuel consumption and the drilling accuracy. In addition for the various drilling systems analyzed, the total drilling and blasting costs were determined and compared. The investigations, which took place in different geological conditions, showed, that for similar unit sizes the net-penetration-rates of the CopRod-drillrigs are higher than for DTH-rigs. But in terms of gross-penetration-rates (these includes the time for the drillrod handling) CopRod machines and classical DTH machines show a comparable drilling performance. The reason for this is that the CopRod drill rods are shorter than the DTH drill rods and therefore changes are more frequent. The hourly fuel consumption of the CopRod rigs is around 30% lower than the consumption of the comparable DTH rig. From the graphical display of the boreholes drilled with the CopRod system it can be seen that the boreholes are straight. Even in boreholes with lengths of 20 m there is nearly no deviation (drifting) recognizable. The comparison of the F9 CR2 and the 14-bar DTH shows in terms of capital costs that the costs of one meter drilled are despite 50% higher capital expenditure lower for the CopRod system. The reason for this is the high drilling performance and the low fuel consumption of the CopRod-system. Even the higher drill-string-costs of the CopRod system do not reduce its advantages.
