Abstract

In order to minimize the effects of the anthropogenic climate change, a technology shift started towards green steel production. The goal through several agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, is to reduce gases that are harmful to the climate. By 2050 the target is to reach domestic net-zero carbon emissions. The steel producers, for their part, are trying to reduce CO2 emissions via green steel production. Therefore, many research projects have been launched by the iron and steel industry. One branch deals with ways to produce ore via electrolysis, on with the storage of the produced CO2 and one with the production of iron through biomass. On specific division is concerned with the production route using hydrogen plasma smelting reactors. The literature review deals with the basis for the simulation of thermodynamic processes. Furthermore there will be discussed some similar already existing models which are calculated statically. The practical part of this work will be a description of a new HPSR plant model and the thermodynamic calculation of it with FactSage®. This model will be based on a mass and energy balance of a pilot and industrial plant. With a new dynamic simulation, a comparison of the new plant layouts with the existing models will be made. Furthermore, a comparison is made by the variation of parameters for different plant layouts with various different production capacities.
