Abstract
This work deals with nitrous oxide and its industrial prevention. Nitrous oxide is also responsible for the greenhouse effect and the destruction of ozone in the stratosphere. The world's principal source of emissions is the agricultural use, in second place comes the industry. Industries generate nitrous oxide as a byproduct and are in the need of processes to reduce emissions. In this work, the catalytic process with a thermal decomposition are compared and the influences of different parameters on the thermal decomposition are investigated by experiments. From the determination of reaction kinetics, a model is developed which calculates N2O decomposition in dependency of selected parameters. The thereby occurring side reactions are also dependent on the chosen parameters and lead to the formation of NOx. The developed model forms the basis of a design program that takes into account the degree of decomposition of nitrous oxide and NOx formation.
