Technologisch-wirtschaftliche Realisierungsmöglichkeiten zur Nutzung von industriellen Energiepotenzialen im städtischen Verbund

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

This master thesis focuses on the research and the evaluation of adequate technologies that deal with energetic synergy effects between industrial companies and municipalities. By considering the corporate town Judenburg in Austrian Styria as defined example, data regarding electricity as well as heat production and consumption serve as base for an assessment of existing potentials. On the one hand, these include technologies for the use of industrial waste heat such as off gas or wastewater, while on the other roof space is considered for the possible implementation of photovoltaics. Furthermore, different scenarios using biomass conclude the technological approach. Dynamic investment calculations allow an evaluation and further description of the most promising scenarios. In addition to the net present value, the annuity displays an important indicator concerning the comparability of the different investment projects. Moreover, the combination of a sensitivity analysis and the development of a matrix with all the energy generation costs leads to an improved interpretability and comparability of the technologically as well as economically most promising scenarios. With regard to the use of industrial waste heat, heat exchanger- and heat pump options deliver the best results, both from a technological and an economic point of view. These aim at the arising flue gas and wastewater quantities and are consequently compared with the entire heat demand of the municipality Judenburg. When looking at the generation of electricity, no economically explicit optimum results from the calculations. However, the implementation of photovoltaic systems can help to improve the supply situation throughout the year and to generate more green electricity on a long-term basis. Considerations for possibly necessary or beneficial flexibility options conclude the investigation and lead to an overall view of the heat and the electricity technologies.
