Abstract

In the course of this master thesis, different raw material samples were sorted with a dry processing method, the triboelectrostatic belt separation. The selected raw material samples are Crude salt, Magnesium oxide, Raw magnesite and Gulsenite. The paper presents an overview of the sorting successes of the different types of raw materials, which were achieved by separation in an electrostatic field. The sorting was carried out with a triboelectrostatic belt separator on a laboratory scale (type STET X2), which is located in a climatic chamber at the Chair of Mineral Processing. For each type of raw material a suitable experimental plan was compiled and used for the execution of the sorting tests. The basis for the preparation of the plans was the experience of previous projects at the Chair of Mineral Processing. These test plans include different machine and raw material parameters as well as environmental conditions. During the execution of the tests, these parameters were specifically changed as specified in the plans, with each individual test being carried out at least twice. With this targeted variation, the best or worst possible settings and general conditions for electrostatic sorting should be determined. The triboelectrostatic charging of the raw material prior to the separation process is an important parameter for the improvement of the charging success and subsequently the sorting success. Up to now, the possibilities in this respect have been limited, which is why the Chair of Mineral Processing has developed a fluidized bed unit with the aim of increasing the triboelectrostatic charge. In the course of this work, the fluid bed unit was commissioned at the plant manufacturer.
