Abstract

At voestalpine at the Donawitz site, energy saving potentials are to be ascertained on the compressors (process blowers) of the sinter plant and blast furnace operations. The basis for this is the general description of the processes and in particular the task of the electric drives and the compressors in the process. In addition, the technical design of the system is analyzed and the control control system is systematically adapted to the changing operating and process requirements in connection with the utilization of the plant.. Fan systems with a high proportion of part-load operation (<75% nominal output) in combination with lossy control (e.g. throttle control) represent a considerable energy saving potential. Parallel operation of several systems for safety or availability reasons also leads to increased energy consumption due to the increased part-load operation. This is also visible in the systematic analysis of the system utilization. On the basis of the systematic survey of compressors with particularly high losses, a technical solution concept is presented for selected systems, the costs for the implementation are estimated and the payback period is calculated.
