Abstract

The main topic of the these is a geological mapping in the area of the Großes Walsertal/Rote Wand (Vorarlberg/Austria). The aim of the study is to describe the facial and microfacial characteristic and to reconstruct the sedimentary succession. The main results are: 1) Lagoon Dachstein Limestone as well as Rhaetian reef limestone are documented. 2) Lechtaler Kreideschieder dont exist in this area. The results prove the identity of cherty sediments of the Ruhpolding-Radiolarite-Group (RRG). 3) Furthermore, biostratigraphy results verify a radiolarit-deposition during Callovian to Early Tithonian. 4) Breccias are missing in the RRG between the Aptychen beds (Late Tithonian to Early Berriasian). 5) Based on a fossil the occurence of dolomite north of Rote Wand is Gutensteiner Formation instead of Hauptdolomit. The Late Triassic to Cretaceous succession thrust over the Gutensteiner Dolomit. The sedimentary succession consist of Hauptdolomit, Dachstein Limestone, Kössener layers and rhaetian reefs. During Liassic Adnet limestones and Allgäu beds are deposited. The Middle Jurassic is represented by limestones of the Klaus Fm. and cherty sediments of the RRG. After that, during Late Tithonian to Early Berriasian were Aptychen layers deposited. As a result, e. g., the geological basis for hydrogeological investigations in Vorarlberg have to be proved in detail.
