The topic of strategic foresight is becoming increasingly important for companies due to the increasing volatility and complexity of the business environment, the use of new technologies, and rising competitive pressure. With the ongoing issue of climate change, many companies are increasingly focused on sustainable business strategies in order to minimize the impact of their own actions on the environment as much as possible. The aim of this thesis is to find out how the instrument of strategic foresight is applied in connection with the implementation of a Carbon Net-Zero strategy. In addition, it was investigated where obstacles exist for companies in the implementation of a Carbon Net-Zero strategy and whether possible recommendations for action can be derived from the results. To this end, the relevant trends of a carbon Net-Zero strategy were identified by means of a literature analysis and compared with the responses of experts and an online survey. In the course of the expert interviews and the online survey, the implementation of Strategic foresight in companies was also queried. Some of the companies already use strategic foresight to monitor the development of relevant trends. This mainly involves monitoring leading indicators that deal with market maturity, price development and the political and legal framework conditions. With regard to hindering circumstances, the lack of renewable energies and the additional cost burden for companies in the context of decarbonization were mentioned. The support from the political side is assessed in a mixed way by the interviewees. While a part definitely locates support, others do not feel sufficiently supported. In the view of companies, experts see a need for action to place the corporate focus more on the topic of Net-Zero and to make existing Net-Zero strategies more robust by subjecting them to a risk analysis.
