Abstract
Composting plant operators are often faced with the challenge of producing a compost quality suitable for sales from biogenic input material containing contaminants. In the context of this master thesis the situation of the biogenic waste management in the household collection of the city of Graz is investigated. For this purpose, the first step is to survey the status quo of biowaste collection and recycling, as well as the waste quantities or separation and recycling rates of the city of Graz. The current methodology of bio-waste collection and special emptying for soiled bio-bins is compared with three other cities. Furthermore, the introduction of a soiled tour and the ecological and economical comparison to the already existing special emptying or integration of the soiled bio garbage cans into the residual waste tour will be examined and discussed. In order to be able to classify the organic waste garbage cans as demonstrably dirty, a rapid determination method, which is intended to provide an indication of the total contaminant content of the organic waste garbage can, is examined for its significance. The comparison of cities shows that the process flows of organic waste collection and special emptying hardly differ, but that there are deviations in the economic analysis. The reviewed quick measurement method could be classified as practicable and reliable base on the data determined in this thesis. The comparison of tours shows that a dirt tour is not profitable compared to other variants considered. A future potential of the dirt tour can be seen in the combination with the future new pre-treatment plant for biogenic waste in the recycling center in Graz. An increase in the total amount of biogenic waste leads to higher separation and recycling rates. Thus, a more positive contribution to the implementation of the circular economy in Graz will be made.
