Abstract

The aim of this work is the parameter identification and investigation of the predictive quality of a semi-empirical phase transformation model for mapping the microstructure development during the quenching of 22MnB5 in the indirect hot stamping process. The phase transformation model is implemented in the commercial FE-code LS-DYNA 971 and considers diffusion controlled and diffusionless phase transformations. To provide optimized parameter values for the infestigation of the prediction quality of the phase transformation model, a parameter identification process is carried out using the method of evolutionary optimization strategies and the Desirability Function after Harrington. Dilatometer measurements close to the time-temperature profiles of the indirect press hardening process, metallographic investigations and the determination of retained austenite serve as data base for this investigations. The investigation of the predictive quality of the phase transformation model and the resulting suggestions are made by considering metal-physical aspects.
