Abstract

Shafts are used for exploitation of underground mineral deposits and for construction of pumped storage hydro power stations and infrastructure projects. Therefore conventional shaft sinking is mostly applied because of the flexibility to shaft geometries and challenging ground conditions. To increase sinking performance as well as health and safety standards machines for shaft sinking are developed and in common use. Rapid advance, narrow space in the shaft and along with the construction process increasing depth are big challenges for the shaft logistics. In addition the chosen shaft sinking method and the opportunity to use a pilot hole determine the requirements to the shaft logistics. This thesis is about mechanized shaft sinking without using a pilot hole. For this sinking method the muck and hoisting operations occur at the shaft collar and have significant influence to the sinking performance. For adaption and improvement the current shaft logistics has to be documented and analysed. This thesis includes a data collection and time study on the “Shaft Boring Roadheader“ at site. On basis of these results and with comparison to the conventional “drill and blast” method a requirement profile for mechanized shaft sinking without using a pilot hole is defined. In addition general design criteria for shaft sinking are given. Furthermore technical and organizational improvements are specified and their interdependence presented. An developed example for muck and hoisting operation is offered. The developed flexible shaft logistics provide a continuous mechanized sinking operation independent of surrounding rock conditions and groundwater flow.
