Quarzstaub im Tunnelbau

Research output: ThesisMaster's Thesis

Abstract

This study provides an insight into the legal framework and the current situation regarding quartz dust in tunnel construction. Furthermore, the maximum contamination of special pollutants at the workplace for underground and tunnel construction is filtered out. Due to the increased measures taken in recent years, it is becoming more and more difficult to comply with the exposure limits. Due to these reasons, the search has now begun for further solutions and implementations for tunnel construction. To be able to do this effectively, the first step was to determine the actual situation in a NATM excavation. For this purpose, the currently available measurement technology was combined, and a variably adaptable measurement program was compiled. Since further measurements will be carried out in the course of the research project, and therefore a good comparability of the measurement data must be ensured, measurement protocols were developed. Two measurement programs were carried out in the course of this work. While the measurement set-up and implementation were almost identical for both, the evaluations focused on different topics. In the station-dependent measurements, the emissions after a blast were assessed in particular. In the second measurement program, the main focus is on the evaluation of the measurement data of the different cycle steps. The evaluations of the measurement data show that a cycle-step-dependent dust extraction system will be necessary in future. Also, compliance with limit values of special gases cannot be guaranteed in blasting operations. The most common solutions proposed to answer these questions are a spray mist system and a remote-controlled ventilation system whose performance is controlled depending on the work step. Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations are being developed to better address different processes in the future and to verify the effectiveness of the proposed solutions. An insight into the world of simulations shows to what extent these tools can be used precisely in the further research project.
