Abstract

The main task of this work was to investigate the process parameters on the refining process of stationary anode-furnace in a secondary copper smelter. The process optimization is limited on the reduction of metal and energy input (oxygen, natural gas) during the refining periods. The estimation of the energy losses in the individual process periods and/or optimization of the burner adjustments could be achieved by further accompanying analysis of the off-gas and an energy balance. In order to achieve a reduction of the cycle stream and thus loads of the individual aggregates, a statistical software (MODDE 7.0) has been installed. Furthermore accompanying investigations on the refining process were carried out. Processing copper scrap of different qualities and significant amounts of minor elements leads to considerable influences on the refining process and energy input. The classification of charging materials into bulky, packaged and fine materials and an energy balance for the batch process results in furher influences on the consumption of energy. Using additional off-gas measurements and oxygen balancing in charging, melting and oxidation periods makes an energy reduction possible. The influence of accompanying elements on slagging and a literature comparison of important process parameters of the reverberatory furnace forms the conclusion of the work.
