Abstract

The aim of this thesis is to provide an overview of the various options for heat recovery (HR) from electric arc furnace slag (EAFS). Initially, the initial situation and the theoretical basics are considered based on the literature research of this work. The second part deals with the detailed calculation of a practical application case for implementing a heat recovery process at Stahl- und Walzwerk Marienhütte GmbH (MH). For this purpose, the necessary data have to be provided in advance in an appropriate quality. MH was able to provide the mass and energy balance of the slag stream that was produced. The specific heat capacity of the EAFS was modelled in FactSage and a systematic literature search was carried out. The most suitable heat recovery process was then selected based on the plant size, final product solidification form and the technology readiness level (TRL) and calculated for implementation in the MH based on technical and economic considerations. The calculated potential for heat recovery from EAFS in the MH using the RecHeat process is assumed to be 3.2 GWh/a. Finally, this thesis provides an outlook on a possible implementation of a copper plate based on the research results of DEWEOS.
