Abstract
Tailored product properties require sound process simulation and structural modelling. Materials strengthening and softening during hot rolling can be described by physical based models. Additionally, microstructure changes statically by softening and because of phase transformation during inter-pass time as well as cooling. A physical model based on three types of dislocations and three nucleation sites for re-crystallized grains is applied to plastomechanical simulation. This model was imple-mented into a commercial Finite Element analysis package FORGE 2008 to calculate both the structure evolution during and the recrystallized volume fraction after hot working of aluminium alloy 5083. The precipitation kinetics during homogenisation was investigated by use of the ther-modynamic calculation software MatCalc. To validate the simulation results hot rolling experiments were performed by means of a laboratory mill. The grain structure evolu-tion was analysed by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
