Abstract
At the date of publication of this diploma thesis, the talc-magnesite deposit of Gemerská Poloma showed no outcrop at the surface, therefore only samples from diamond drillng were available for analysis. It revealed that the coveted raw material talc holds enclaves of pyrite crystals in the range of μm to mm. These pyrites derogate the degree of whiteness if they are grounded with the talc and consequently it reduces the value of the whole product. Therefore the intention of this thesis was to separate the pyrites as well as carbonates and rarely appearing quartz from talc by magnetic separation. Within the course of this study a mixed product of the ore of the above mentioned deposit was analyzed with the Frantz magnetic separator. As a result, magnesite showed a higher magnetic uszeptibility whereas pyrite and quartz proved to be non-magnetic. Tests with fractured material at a magnetic belt separator were additionally made, thereby magnesite was easily seperated from talc while the separation of pyrite from talc was not possible. The whole raw material of the deposit was analyzed by microscopy, atomic absorption and electron beam micro probe. The results were displayed in charts and diagrams. Obviously the deposit is a hydrothermal formation, which arose in several stages from carbonated parent rock material.
