Abstract
The production is the main area of a company which produces goods. All value-added services that transform incoming raw materials in outgoing finished goods are provided by this part of the company. Therefore, the production planning and scheduling play a major role in this process. In general, normal production planning and scheduling systems only provide quite simple planning methods for resource planning, lot-sizing and capacity planning. This can lead to unstable production plans and often ends up in the operations planning dilemma. To overcome those difficulties so called “Advanced planning and scheduling systems (APS)” were created. APS provides more sophisticated solutions to optimally allocate the company’s ressources and manufacturing capacity to meet the customer’s demand. The optimization is achieved through special algorithms and heuristics. In this thesis a requirements catalogue is developed which helps implementing such a system at Böhler Schmiedetechnik GmbH & Co KG. The main part of this system is a so called “Solver” which allows finding the best planning solutions. After implementation, the planning quality of this system is tested and analyzed.
