Abstract

The aim of this master's thesis is to analyze the selection of different renewable energy storage technologies, considering technical aspects as well as economic aspects and to optimize them based on the modelling results. The work and the model developed for it should enable a quantitative assessment of which storage technology is suitable for which applications and which costs arise as a result. This should enable an optimized selection based on different scenarios. In order to develop this model, a comprehensive literature review of various energy storage technologies is required. The first part of this thesis contains this literature research. Building on this, the second part describes the model created and the control system used in the model. In the concluding third part, the model created is applied to various use cases and optimized based on the modelled results. Finally, an optimal storage technology or a combination of different storage technologies will be determined for the analyzed use cases. To do this, it is necessary to determine all the necessary parameters from published reports or data sheets and prepare them in a clear manner. By working out the various performance parameters in this way, it was possible to feed the model with current values, some of which had already been tested in trials. This allows a real calculation based on current data, from which meaningful conclusions can be drawn. The information obtained is used to make an initial assessment of the optimum energy storage structure, considering both the technical feasibility and the resulting costs. The calculations are carried out using the model created for the energy storage technologies selected at the beginning. The aim is to identify ideal system architectures in terms of efficiency, self-sufficiency and costs. Finally, modelling was carried out using exemplary use cases and analyzed based on various parameters. By discussing existing limitations that emerge from the modelling, further possibilities for adapting the model are listed. This should lay the foundation for further work on the model.
